Prerequisite Overrides for WRTG (Writing) Courses

Contributed by Jack Wang

If you tried to register for WRTG courses in the Department of Writing but were unable to because of prerequisites, you may still be eligible to enroll.

The Department of Writing recently changed prerequisites for a number of courses such as Fiction Writing I, Poetry Writing I, Feature Writing, and Writing the Short Novel for the 2013-14 academic year. However, these changes do not apply to current students, even though they already appear in HomerConnect.

Consult the WRTG Course Descriptions in the current catalog. If you meet the current prerequisites, then email Lynn Hyde, administrative assistant in the Department of Writing, at lhyde@ithaca.edu with your student number and the name of the course you wish to enroll in. If you are in fact eligible and seats remain, you will be given a prerequisite override. Keep in mind, though, that you will still have to register for the course yourself through HomerConnect after you receive notification from Ms. Hyde.

However, if you are looking for a prerequisite override because you do not meet the current prerequisites, you will need to contact the instructor of the course for permission. If the instructor is TBA or if you have any other question, contact Dr. Jack Wang, chair of the Department of Writing, at wang@ithaca.edu.

Please note that overrides based on major for WRTG 21100: Writing for the Workplace will only be processed if seats remain; no capacity overrides will be granted.
