Looking for a leadership role in a service learning organization?

This is a call to all Ithaca College students who are interested in being a part of a prison arts initiative, either as a regular member or in a leadership role as a student organization officer. Creative Arts Outreach: HEARD Program is a student organization that leads weekly creative arts programming for the young adult male residents of MacCormick Secure Center, a juvenile justice facility in nearby Brooktondale, NY. We are seeking new members for the upcoming fall semester.

The HEARD Program (Human Expression through the Arts: a Resident Development Program) received its name four years ago, from a MacCormick resident who said, "We feel like people listen, but we're not really heard." The acronym was designed to reflect our mission, to provide expressive outlets through the creative arts to incarcerated youth in the Central New York area, simultaneously providing IC students with a unique service learning opportunity.

While the current members of Creative Arts Outreach are extremely dedicated to the cause, most are seniors ready to graduate this May. For this reason, we’re seeking not only members, but IC students who would like to take a leadership role next semester as President, Vice President, Secretary, or Treasurer.

An informational meeting will be held on Thursday May 2nd from 7pm – 8pm in the Taughannock Falls room in Campus Center. Refreshments will be served. Please come with questions and bring a friend!

Sincerely,

Matt Honold, President

Samantha Underwood, Program Coordinator
