A message from Professor Benware:
My name is Professor Drew Benware and, while I have been away from Ithaca College for two years now, I am happy to be returning as the conductor for both the Summer Graduate Band and Summer Graduate Choir (incidentally, I do have prior experience conducting IC ensembles including the Concert Band, Brass Choir, Campus Choral Ensemble, and Summer Ensembles). These ensembles combine a host of graduate, undergraduate, IC, Cornell, and Ithaca community members in a truly unique and gratifying musical environment. The commitment is relatively little and there is flexibility in terms of dates that individuals may be out of town (given advanced notice!).
Summer Graduate Band meets Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5:15-6:45 in Presser, beginning July 1 and culminating with an evening concert on the 31st of July. While repertoire may depend on personnel, the program is tentatively titled "Note-worthy Places" and will include pieces by Wilson, Reed, Gershwin, Grainger, and possibly Ives.
Summer Graduate Choir meets Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:15-6:45 in Beeler beginning on the 2nd of July (with July 4th off) and culminating in a concert on July 31. Again, the repertoire is dependent on personnel, but is proposed to include pieces by Billings, Dickau, Brahms, Palestrina, Hogan, and Nelson, to name a few.
PLEASE CONTACT ME TO SAY THAT YOU WILL BE PARTICIPATING (being sure to indicate voice part and instrument) (abenware@ithaca.edu). The courses can be taken for 1 credit a piece (for which you would have to pay) or simply audited for free and for the experience. I truly encourage you all to attend and bring friends! It is a wonderful opportunity to continue your musicianship development through the Summer months!
