Submitted on behalf of David Prunty and Doreen Hettich-Atkins, Chairpersons of the Ithaca College Commencement Committee.
As chairpersons of the Ithaca College Commencement Committee, we would like to thank each and every IC community member – staff, faculty and student - who played a part in this year’s Commencement weekend activities.
As many of you are aware, numerous changes and special circumstances happened for Commencement 2013, which made this past weekend a special challenge. The Hill Center construction forced the Graduate Hooding Ceremony and reception and the Commencement Eve Concert to move; and required a change in the procession route. Many new aspects were added to the weekend and the ceremony including flower concessions and new emergency response protocols. Most importantly, we graduated the largest class in the history of Ithaca College. The campus community in general, and the Commencement Committee in particular, rose to meet these challenges and created an exceptional weekend for all of our guests.
The campus and grounds looked beautiful; the ceremonies, programs, and events were well organized and very meaningful to our graduates and their families; the food at the receptions was wonderful; the Commencement Eve Concert and fireworks were spectacular; and Sunday’s Ceremony was memorable for our graduates, their parents, and guests. The tremendous effort from the entire community does not go unnoticed. Many parents, guests, and graduates expressed their appreciation for the weekend’s activities.
Thank you again, enjoy the summer months, and we look forward to working with you again for next year’s Commencement activities!
