Apple Mac Mini and Technology Renewal

As previously reported in Intercom, the Apple Mac Mini is the new standard desktop for the Macintosh platform for the Technology Renewal Program. Going forward, new Apple desktop systems will reflect this change.

As part of the Technology Renewal Program, departments can order a new standard Mac Mini bundle, as well as other Technology Renewal-eligible standard systems, using the “IC Technology Renewal” shopping list in iProcurement, the college’s on-line purchasing system in Parnassus. 

Here are three important changes to be aware of:

  1. Only the CPU and keyboard will be part of the Technology Renewal Program and replaced every three years. Monitors and external DVD drives are purchased on own by department and will not be replaced as part of Technology Renewal.
  2. Apple does not offer an inexpensive standard-size monitor, so the Mac Mini bundle does not include one. To facilitate ordering a monitor, we have added a Mac Mini compatible ASUS 21” LCD display to the “IC Other Technology” shopping list which you can add to your Mac Mini requisition. Of course you may purchase a different monitor from the vendor of your choice if you prefer a different brand or size.
  3. Apple no longer includes internal DVD drives. If you would like a drive for your Mac Mini bundle, they can be purchased through the Ithaca College on-line Staples Office Supply Catalog or through the vendor of your choice.
