Next Monday, July 1, School of Music professor John W. White will give a jazz piano recital as part of the Summer Piano Institute at Ithaca College. Assisting his performance will be SOM adjunct faculty member Peter Chwazik on bass and SOM alumnus Tom Killian on drums and marimba.
The program begins at 7 p.m. in Hockett Family Recital Hall, within the Whalen Center for Music, and will be over in time for everyone to attend the Ithaca City Fireworks display. The trio will cover a wide variety of jazz styles and feature unique versions of classical compositions (Bach, Bartók, Satie), numerous works by Chick Corea, and other standards by jazz heavyweights such as Horace Silver and Duke Ellington.
The School of Music's Summer Piano Institute (SPI) -- where talented young pianists are invited to the IC campus for 10 days of intensive piano study-- will run from June 27 to July 6, hosting seven concerts in Hockett Family Recital Hall and one in Ford Hall. Concerts will feature piano faculty members, guest performers, and SPI participants. Check the online concert calendar for program updates!
