Dawn Pierce, Assistant professor of performance studies, and three School of Music performance majors are spending three weeks in Bavaria, Germany to serve as participants of the Opera Division of the International Performing Arts Institute (IPAI).
As student participants, vocal performance majors Katrina Kuka ('13) and Kendra Domotor ('15) and piano performance major Samuel Martin ('14), will study the German language, perform in staged opera scenes and song recitals, and take part in master classes for numerous leading American and European artists active in the field.
The core of the program involves biweekly lessons with IPAI’s renowned residential artist-faculty, an outstanding group of musicians that Pierce was asked to join this year.
Located in Kiefersfelden at the foot of the Bavarian Alps, IPAI is stationed between several major European cities, including Munich and Vienna. Students are able to spend time exploring the surrounding German and Austrian cultures and attend performances by international artists.
In addition to the Opera Division, IPAI has a Musical Theater division, allowing students to audition for casting agents for touring musicals throughout Europe. For more information, visit www.internationalperformingartsinstitute.com.
