We will begin the theatrical season with “Fires in the Mirror”. Originally produced as a one-woman show, written and performed by Anna Deveare Smith, this seminal piece of “documentary theatre” will be performed by an ensemble and chronicles the events -- and divergent points of view -- concerning the Crown Heights, Brooklyn riots of 1991. The fall musical will be Stephen Sondheim’s musical interpretation of the Brothers Grimm, “Into the Woods”. Rounding out the fall semester will be funny-man David Ives’ latest collection of comic shorts, “Mere Mortals”.
The annual collaboration between the Ithaca College School of Music and the Department of Theatre Arts, will be Emmanuel Chabrier’s opéra bouffe in three acts L'étoile. The spring musical, “Gone Missing”, was created by the Civilians theatre troupe and concerns many dramatic possibilities of the very human experience of losing something that never was found. Finishing up the season is Arthur Miller’s American classic, “The Crucible”. Set during the Salem witch trials of 17th century New England, “The Crucible” was a response to the Communist “witch hunts” of the 1950’s of which playwright Miller was a victim.
