The Ithaca College Library and Handwerker Gallery will hold their first Banned Book Read Out on Thursday, September 26th 2013 from 12:10 to 3 pm in the Gannett Center’s Handwerker Gallery.
Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read and the importance of the First Amendment. Books are most frequently banned or challenged if an institution or individual deems their content to be offensive.
Ithaca College faculty, staff and students are invited to participate by reading aloud for 5 to10 minutes from one of hundreds of books banned or challenged each year. Consider sharing a sentence or two about the book, why it was chosen, or a thought about its meaning or context. Fiction, non-fiction, plays, journalistic and scientific writings are all welcome. You are also welcome to read from a non-English text.
