Is Orange the New Black?
Alex, Sophia, Taystee, and Nicky - Changing conversations about LGBT media representations
A facilitated discussion with Luca Maurer, Thursday September 19 at 4 pm in the Handwerker Gallery on campus.

Strong, complex female characters in this popular series are changing the ways many viewers think about sexual orientation and gender identity, prison justice issues, class, race, relationships, and more. How do these intersect in fictional ways in the series as well as in real life? In what ways is this series advancing conversations about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) themes? Does enhanced visibility of LGBT characters benefit us? Hold us back? A little of both? Come contribute to a facilitated discussion of what's going right, what's going wrong, who the characters are that you love to watch, and what you'd envision as the future of LGBT media portrayals.
