The performance will be on Saturday October 5th, 2013 at 10AM in Ford Hall in the Whalen Center for Music at Ithaca College. Parents with small children are encouraged to come and stay for the show --- even if their kids make noise; making a joyful noise is what jazz is all about!
Inspired by the children's jazz concerts done by Wynton Marsalis and Leonard Bernstein, the Ithaca College Jazz Ensemble will play, sing, demonstrate instruments — basically, do anything and everything to help answer the question "What is jazz?"
Jazz ensemble director Mike Titlebaum explains "For aspiring jazz musicians, it is important that we can teach children about the fundamental aspects of jazz that make it unique from any other music: primarily it's swinging rhythms and deep blues feeling. And, we aspire to teach about it in a way that's fun and engaging to kids because we want to build an audience for the music we love so much. And, because so many students in the music school are majoring in Music Education, they are extremely passionate about bringing music to young people."
The one-hour concert will be held on Saturday morning, October 5th at 10AM in Ford Hall, on the 4th floor of the Whalen Center for Music on the Ithaca College campus. Ample free parking is available in the "J" lot by the towers. For more information, contact Mike Titlebaum at mtitlebaum@ithaca.edu.
