Janet Galván, director of choral activities at Ithaca College, served as the 2013 Mark of Excellence national adjudicator this past August.
The Mark of Excellence/National Choral Honors project seeks to recognize and award outstanding achievement in performance by high school and middle school choirs. The project gathers entries from throughout the United States and provides valuable feedback for all entrants.
During the project, a unique competitive environment is created, allowing ensembles to compare their performance quality to that of other outstanding groups from across the country. The critiques and the compilation recordings will prove helpful in improving performance in high school and middle school choral music.
Galván applauded the project, adding that, “it offers bands, choirs, and orchestras the incredible opportunity to earn national recognition for their musical achievement.”
The Mark of Excellence recorded music contest is sponsored by The Foundation For Music Education—a non-profit organization committed to raising funds for the support of music education and the proliferation of music educators in our schools.
