The Sustainability Café on Monday, December 2nd will feature Jake Brenner and Mary McKean ’15, discussing “Intergenerational, Community-based Land Stewardship.” The Café will be held in Center for Natural Sciences Room 112 at 4:00PM, in conjunction with the Environmental Seminar. The Fall 2013 Sustainability Café/Environmental Seminar series is focused on the concept of “Citizens + Community = Healthy Environment.”
Jake Brenner, assistant professor of Environmental Studies and Mary McKean ’15, ENVS student, will present on the development of the Retirees in Service to the Environment (R.I.S.E.) program, a partnership between the department of Environmental Studies and Sciences, the Ithaca College Gerontology Institute, and the nearby Longview at Ithaca senior residential community. RISE makes the entry into environmental volunteerism easier for people 60 and over, including those with no prior experience working on environmental issues. RISE builds participants’ leadership skills and awareness of available scientific resources in order to prepare retirees to become successful environmental stewards, able to take on meaningful volunteer roles in their communities.
“Teachable edibles” – local, organic and/or seasonal snacks – for the Fall 2013 Sustainability Café series are being sponsored by Ithaca College Dining Services whose motto is “Sustainability – Healthy – Fresh.” Please bring your reusable mug and fill up at the nearest drinking fountain or provide your own beverage of choice.
