For the first time in the School of Business' history, a student has earned top level certification by Microsoft.

Justin Rivera '14, has successfully completed the requirements to be a recognized Microsoft Office Specialists for Office Excel 2010 Expert.

According to Microsoft, a Microsoft Certification validates your expertise in a Microsoft technology. As a Microsoft Certified Professional, they’ll have access to community resources and tools that allow them to exchange ideas with peers, increase knowledge and skills, and broaden career opportunities.

"We are very proud of the excellence shown by Justin achieving this high level of certification," said Dean Mary Ellen Zuckerman. "He serves as an aspirational role model for other students, demonstrating that they can achieve this level of certification with the education given them here in the Business School."

The Microsoft Certification exams not only help one to appeal to employers, but it also gives one the critical skills needed to work their way around Office programs efficiently.  This certification is overlooked by many institutions and will help Justin to further set himself apart from the competition.

“Justin is the tip of the spear, being our first student to become Excel Expert certified.  In the future, all students coming out of our Business Systems and Technology course will be required to take the Microsoft Excel Expert exam and, to enter the course, must already have been core certified in Excel and one other Microsoft Office product,” reports Dr William Tastle, Professor of Information Systems.
