FLEFF Junior Fellows enroll in a one-credit mini course GCOM 12000 that runs the day before the festival, during the festival (accommodated to your class schedule), and the day after.
Taught by Dr. Claudia Pederson, assistant professor of screen studies and assistant curator of new media for FLEFF, the course introduces students to the history, function and organization of festivals in the media/arts world, and also provides students with transitioning to a deeper, more professional engagement with the festival at events, workshops, master classes, screenings and parties. Fellows have an opportunity to engage festival programming and guests in a more intense way than other festival-goers.
Fellows receive a special lanyard that identifies them as FLEFF JUNIOR FELLOWS, integrating them into the festival team. Dr. Pederson and Tiffani as well as other staff will serve as guides and coaches to immerse in the festival process in a more intense way than if one simply bought a ticket to one film.
We STRONGLY suggest that all students interested in pursuing a Junior Fellowship meet for a one-on-one meeting with Tiffani to learn more about the program. Students enrolled in this FLEFF mini course should also be apprised that they should put Junior Fellow for FLEFF 2014 on their resumes.
The course is open on a first-come, first-served based. There are three sections of 20 seats each for a total of 60 seats. Registration is open until the day before the course begins, March 29, 2014.
We strongly recommend that students interested in joining and participating as FLEFF Junior Fellows register this fall when registration opens. We are particularly interested in recruiting first year students and transfer students to this program, as well as students from across the Ithaca College campus who would prefer a liberal arts experience over a non-liberal arts internship.
For students seeking FLEFF internships or blogging internship positions, please note that priority selection in these competitive positions goes to students who have taken the FLEFF Festivals course. Enrolling in the course for this Spring establishes credentials for internships with FLEFF the next year.
