Visiting Artist Brian Bishop to give an Encaustic Painting Demonstration and Artist Lecture at the Art Department, Ithaca College on Friday Nov. 1, 2013

Visiting artist Brian Bishop will give a free Encaustic Painting Demonstration on Friday, November 1, 2013 from 10-10:30 a.m. at the Art Department, Ithaca College in room 127 of the Ceracche Center and a lecture about his work from 1-2p.m. in room 126.

Bishop attended Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, MI in 1995 where he received his MFA in painting. 

He has written many essays on painting and presented his essay, "The Interstice Between the Sentimental and Cynical Act of Painting," at the 98th Annual Conference of the College Art Association held in Chicago, IL for the session "The Object of Nostalgia."

He has exhibited his work in 27 states including solo exhibitions at the Cheekwood Museum of Art in Nashville, TN; Creative Arts Workshop in New Haven, CT; The University of Delaware in Newark, DE; Artspace in Raleigh, NC; Georgetown University in Washington, DC; and at Youngblood Gallery in Atlanta, GA. He has also participated in select group exhibitions at the National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC; Galway Arts Centre in Galway, Ireland; Gallery 111 in Johannesburg, South Africa and The Painting Center in New York, NY.

Bishop is Associate Professor of Art and Chair of the Department of Art & Music at Framingham State University, Framingham, MA.
