Cory Young, Associate Professor in the Department of Strategic Communication, Aditi Rao, graduate student, M.S. in Communications, and Bob Regan, Director of the Executive Master's program in Communications Innovation, will present a paper at the National Communication Association's annual convention, held November 21‐24, 2013 in Washington, D.C.
The paper, entitled "Media for Social Responsibility Mini Course: Media Coverage of Global Nutrition" addresses food related discourses and the role of media in reporting issues such as body image or food as an industry in a responsible manner. They will also discuss how to repackage the mini-course material into a SPOC, a small private online course similar to a MOOC (massive open online course).
Young and Rao, will also present a paper entitled “Integrated Crisis Communication: A Both/And Perspective,” focuses on the integration of tradition and social media in crisis communication plans. Many scholars have extolled the value of integrating these media and offered best practices; yet, few have actually visualized what this concurrent integration looks like. Young and Rao offer an integrated crisis communication plan.
