Filmmaker Professor Awam to speak about “New Imaginaries in Transborder Transactions” Friday, November 15 @ 4pm in Clark Lounge

The Classrooms Beyond Borders Initiative, Ithaca College, would like to invite you, your students and friends to our public lecture by actor, director, filmmaker and author Awam Amkpa on Friday, November 15, 4-6pm in Clark Lounge. Born in Nigeria, Professor Amkpa is now associate professor of Drama, Social and Cultural Analysis at Tisch School of Arts and director of the Africana Center at New York University. He will be discussing “Mutating Literacies, Cultural Productions and New Imaginaries in Transborder Transactions.” 

Professor Amkpa is the author of Theatre and Postcolonial Desires (2003) and forthcoming Archetypes, Stereotypes and Polytypes: Theatres of the Black Atlantic. He has also directed film documentaries, including Winds Against Our SoulsIt’s All About DowntownNational Images and Transnational Desires, and feature film Wazobia!  

This public lecture opens the Classrooms Beyond Borders workshop Transborder Collaborations in Teaching and Research: Power, Identity and Justice.  Co-sponsors include the Office of the Provost, African Studies and Research Forum, Inc., Politics Department and African Student Association.
