SLPA faculty, students present at ASHA convention

The Ithaca College Department of Speech Langauge Pathology and Audiology was well represented at the 2013 American Speech-Language Hearing Association Convention held in Chicago from Nov. 14-16.
More than a dozen students and faculty members for IC presented at the convention, which is considered one of the top conferences for speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and speech, language, and hearing scientists.
This year’s event attracted 14,800 attendees and featured the theme "The Magic of Teamwork: Science and Service Delivery."
Presentations by IC students and faculty were well attended. Yvonne Rogalski's presentation on keeping healthy brain function during aging drew a crowd of more than 300 and was standing room only.
Below is a list of presentations made by Ithaca College students and faculty:
- “Identifying Reliable Predictors of Oral Proficiency in Non-native Speakers,” a poster presented by Marie Sanford, Anne Escobedo, and Julie Balazs.
- “Accent Modification Action Plan for Linguistically Diverse Graduate Students,” a poster presented by Marie Sanford and Ana Gomon.
- “Strides for Communication: A Collaborative Model of AAC Intervention,” a technical clinical presented by Tina Caswell.
- “Mild Cognitive Impairment & Healthy Aging: Characteristics, Evaluation, & Treatment Approaches,” a two-hour seminar presented by Yvonne Rogalski, Valarie Fleming, and Michelle Bourgeois. Sarah Key-DeLyria and Muriel Quintana authored but did not present.
- “A Cross-Disciplinary Approach to Meeting the Common Core,” a poster presented by Jana Waller, Marie Sanford, and Cassandra Natali.
- “Revisiting Neighborhood Density: How Do Adults Define Phonological Similarity?” a poster presented by Skott Freedman, Meredith Gennaro, and Amanda DiTomaso.
- “SLP Role in Interdisciplinary Services for a Child with Kabuki Syndrome: Case Study,” a poster presented by Barbara Ann Johnson-Root.
