The City of Ithaca is facing severe challenges tied to ice and flooding (http://www.ci.ithaca.ny.us)

In order to help Fall Creek-area residents, the City is providing sand and bags for making sandbags and volunteers are needed.

Materials are available from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. today and Saturday at the DPW Streets and Facilities Division, 245 Pier Road. (To get there from Rt 13, turn onto Willow Ave (across Rt 13 from Dey St). Turn right at the T junction. Then right again on Pier Rd.)

Sandbags will be easy to fill (via gravity), but harder to move: bags will typically weigh between 40 and 60 lbs.

Those who need sandbags will be helped by city facilities workers, and as many volunteers as the city can amass.

If you can volunteer for an hour or two to fill and transport sandbags for others, your help could make a huge difference to a Fall Creek resident.

Those interested can sign-up via the link below for one (or more) hours:

And if you have a truck to lend on Saturday, or have any questions, please call volunteer coordinator Miranda at 277-1241.
