Yoga is well-documented as a healing and transformative art in modern times. Iyengar students require an anatomical understanding of the shape and precision of the poses (asanas). Iyengar Yoga, with its precision and regular practice can heal or lessen back pain and other musculoskeletal injuries/conditions, reclaim energy and health, and using the awareness of the body as a tool, transform negative mental states.
These sessions will be held in the Fitness Center aerobics room on Wednesdays and Fridays from 1:00 - 2:30 pm beginning Jan. 22nd. Regular attendance is encouraged to realize the full benefit of the classes. The goal is to move the body and mind towards balanced health. Those interested in a beginners class should consider attending the "Gentle Yoga" classes offered on Thursdays at 1:00 pm.
Your Instructor: James has been studying yoga since a young age. He turned to the Iyengar method in 1999, after injuries from other forms of yoga caused him to seek refuge in the intelligence and rigor of study in this tradition. James has traveled to India to study with senior Indian Iyengar teachers regularly since 2003. His knowledge is complemented by an interest and study of Pilates, including the training for Pilates certification, other exercise forms and he was an accredited personal trainer 18 years ago in New York City. In addition to teaching in India to Bollywood movie stars and athletes, James works with the needy and poor of India.
