Anthony Di Renzo, associate professor of writing, will read from Trinàcria: A Tale of Bourbon Sicily: 7:00 PM Tuesday, February 11 in Klingenstein Lounge, Egbert Hall.

Published by Guernica Editions,Trinàcria chronicles the destruction of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies during the Risorgimento (the Italian War of Unification). The novel's protagonist, the Marchesa of Scalea, narrates her story from beyond the grave.

Since its October 2013 release, Trinàcria has attracted media attention on both sides of the Atlantic, including a one-hour special on RAI Uno (Italian public radio). The novel also has been praised in Best of Sicily Magazine, Italian Americana, L'Italo Americano, Journal of Modern Italian Studies, Sicilia Parra, The Staten Island Advance, and Times of Sicily.

"At long last!" writes Tom Verso in the online magazine i-Italy. "A Southern Italian American (pre-Ellis Island) historical novel that is also high-brow literature!" Verso praises Trinàcria's for its "complex political, psychological, ethical, and aesthetic nuances" and its "countercultural critique" of Italian and American history. "For helping to birth a new ethnic consciousness," he states, "Di Renzo deserves to be called a Southern Italian cultural warrior."

Trinàcria: A Tale of Bourbon Sicily may be purchased through Amazon or Guernica Editions. Dr. Di Renzo's reading, however, is free and open to the public. Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Jamie Warburton at (607) 274-3599 or jwarburton@ithaca.edu
