This coming Sunday, February 16, there will be a screening of the documentary film "Moliere's Tartuffe"- which follows the company of Alliance Francais d'Islamabad as they rehearse and perform a production of Tartuffe. The screening will be at 6 pm in the Park Auditorium and will be followed by a talk back with producer/director/actor Tughral Turab Ali.

In April 2011 the Pakistani theatre company Alliance Francais d'Islamabad produced a production of Moliere's "Tartuffe" as a response to the murder of Punjabi Governor Salmaan Taseer. Taseer was assassinated in January of 2011 by his own security guard as a response to his views on the blasphemy laws in Pakistan. By producing Moliere's work on religious hypocrisy, the theatre group hoped to start a dialogue on religious bigotry. The controversial production played for three nights to sold out audiences. Tughral Ali not only produced the production, but also played the title role and directed.
A documentary film on the production entitled "Moliere's Tartuffe" has just been released. The film is in Urdu with English subtitles.
Tughral Turab Ali is one of the founding members of two theatre groups in Islamabad: Alliance Francais d'Islamabad and Theatre Wallay. He is currently a Sloan Fellow in Global Leadership and Innovation at MIT. He is in the U.S. as a guest of the State Department's Citizen Exchange Program.
