Seeking Nominations for the next Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR)

The NCAA formally recognizes four key institutional positions:  the President, the Director of Athletics, the Senior Woman Administrator, and the Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR).  Professor Wenmouth Williams, who is retiring at the end of this academic year, is currently serving as the Ithaca College FAR.  He has and continues to do this with distinction.  

We are now seeking nominations (including self-nominations) of individuals interested in serving in this capacity, effective June 1, 2014. The NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative must be a tenured faculty member or senior ongoing NTEN who is appointed by the President. The term of the appointment is for two years, renewable up to four times.

The key responsibilities for this position are:

• Assists in ensuring the academic integrity of the athletics program
• Assists in ensuring institutional control of the athletics program
• Works with the director of athletics and other administrators to enhance student experience
• Advocates on behalf of student-athletes to ensure their well-being
• Helps to facilitate student-athletes academic work
• Works with the associate athletic director to ensure NCAA compliance and eligibility
• Nominates student-athletes for awards and scholarships
