Jim Rutman, an agent with Sterling Lord Literistic since 1998, will visit Ithaca College on Wednesday, March 19 at 2:30 p.m. in the Handwerker Gallery to talk with students about the publishing world.
Jim will answer questions from students and faculty about the publishing industry, the process of finding an agent, and the agent’s career path. The event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.
Jim represents a spectrum of journalists, historians, and critics whose work engages questions of broad cultural and aesthetic consequence, and an eclectic group of fiction writers, including Teddy Wayne, Sheila Heti, Jessica Anthony, Peter Rock, Maile Chapman, Charles Bock, Jay Caspian Kang, J. Robert Lennon, and Jim Shepard, with a preference for morally and formally challenging writers. His visit is hosted by his client Eleanor Henderson, Assistant Professor in the Department of Writing and author of Ten Thousand Saints (shown here together at the recent wrap party for the film based on the novel).
Jim recently contributed an essay about agenting, "The Disappointment Business," to MFA vs. NYC: The Two Cultures of American Fiction (Faber & Faber, 2014).
Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Eleanor Henderson at ehenderson@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-3324. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
