I am writing to inform the college community that Dr. Marisa Kelly has accepted a position as Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at Suffolk University in Boston. She will complete her tenure as Provost and Vice President for Educational Affairs at Ithaca College on May 31, 2014.
Marisa has served with distinction during a crucial time in the college’s history. Under her leadership, we have taken the all-important first steps toward implementation of the IC 20/20 strategic plan including its cornerstone initiative, the Integrative Core Curriculum. As our first Vice President for Educational Affairs, Marisa has increased collaboration between Academic Affairs and Student Affairs to create a seamless campus learning community.
I want to share my sincere thanks to Marisa for her tremendous work advancing IC 20/20 initiatives, and the many cross-campus innovations she brought to Ithaca College. We are stronger as an institution due to her leadership.
In the coming weeks I will be meeting with faculty and administrative leaders to receive input before naming an interim provost. I will also work with these groups to establish a committee, charge, timeline and position description to frame a national search for a new provost who can provide the continuity and leadership necessary to implement initiatives outlined in IC 20/20.
I know this is an attractive position that will generate a robust applicant pool, because the successful candidate will be able to contribute to a dynamic campus with a strong leadership team, support distinguished faculty and students, and help build upon and continue to advance the college’s successes.
I will keep you up to date as next steps are determined.
Sincerely,
Tom Rochon
