In mid-April, Strike (the piano and percussion duo comprised of Jeffery Meyer and Paul Vaillancourt) will be in residence at the University of Missouri-Kansas Conservatory of Music and Dance performing two concerts including the world premiere of two new works that were winners of the 2014 composition contest. Meyer and Vaillancourt were guest judges for the UMCK 2014 Composition Contest, choosing two works to be premiered by the duo. During their residency they will work with emerging student composers, give masterclasses on their respective instruments, and participate in various ensemble coachings, private lessons and classes.
May will find Meyer returning to Asia for a 10-day orchestral training academy at the Tianjin Conservatory of Music. The orchestral training program will culminate in a performance at the closing gala concert of the Tianjin May Festival with Bartok Concerto for Orchestra and two new works by guest faculty Zhou Long and Chen Yi. Shortly thereafter, Meyer will again appear with the Thailand Philharmonic performing Lutoslawski Symphony No. 2 and undertaking a recording project of music by the dynamic Thai composer Narong Prangcharoen for future release on the Albany label.
