Congratulations to Holland Garbacz, the recipient of the 2014 Ithaca College Student Employee of the Year award!
Student Employees perform an invaluable service to our campus with enthusiasm, dedication and initiative. Along with our annual celebration of appreciation, we honored one student employee with an Ithaca College Student Employee of the Year award. Each department on campus was allowed to nominate one student. Ithaca College employs over 3,000 student employees each academic year, so selecting only one student nominee was a very difficult task.
The student of the year award is based upon their outstanding qualities: reliability, quality of work, initiative, professionalism and uniqueness of contribution.
Congratulations to Holland Garbacz for winning Student Employee of the Year 2014! Holland has worked in the Humanities and Sciences Honors Program and is the Event Coordinator. She was nominated by Thomas Pfaff, Program Director of the Humanities and Sciences Honors Program.
Thomas says “…the students events portion of the Honors Program is functioning smoothly, due to the initiative and reliability of Holland…She always goes above and beyond.”
One of the many initiatives that Holland took was the idea of a program to encourage students to get off campus, now called, Explore Ithaca. She handled the coordination of transportation and also secured multiple discounts for 60 honors students to local places around Ithaca.
Holland continued her enthusiasm and dedication by taking the idea of creating a day adventure to take advantage of our local resources and brought it to fruition; she came up with a trip for the students to learn about family run agriculture in the Finger Lakes. She organized this by contacting the places that were of interest, creating the itinerary for such a trip and ensuring proper transportation for all included.
Congratulations Holland on a job well done!
