Steve has been a professor in the mathematics department at IC since 1968. He has been a college marshal for the last several years.
Steve was a very popular teacher; a favorite course is linear algebra where (in the spring) students use what they are learning to fill out March Madness brackets. He also served a 3-year term as a faculty trustee and he chaired the provost search committee when Jim Malek was hired. Steve was a recipient of the Seaway Section of the MAA Award for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics (1994, Mathematical Association of America). He was a PI on several major NSF grants for calculus reform (along with Diane Schwartz, John Maceli, Eric Robinson, and Stan Seltzer.) That group also published two editions of Calculus: An Active Approach with Project. Steve is also co-author of several very successful books for Barron's: Barron's GMAT, How to Prepare for the GRE Graduate Record Examination.
Please join us in celebrating Steve’s retirement on May 8.
