SLPA faculty, students present at New York State Speech-Language-Hearing Association annual convention

The Department of Speech Language Pathology and Audiology was well represented last weekend at the New York State Speech-Language-Hearing Association annual convention in Saratoga Spring, New York.

Five faculty members (Tina Caswell, Jana Waller, Mary Pitti, Amy Rominger, and Luanne Andersson) and four students (Sharon Beltaine, Danica Carlson, Kaitlyn Risberg, and Casey Phillips) presented at the conference:

• Clinical Instructor Tina Caswell and student Sharon Beltaine (SLP Teaching ’16) gave a two-hour seminar titled, Developing SLP Competency with iPad Technology to Effectively Serve Children with Complex Communication Needs. 
• Clinical Instructor Jana Waller, Clinical Assistant Professor and Clinic Director Mary Pitti, and students Danica Carlson (SLP ’15) and Kaitlyn Risberg (SLP’15) presented a poster titled, Confident or Concerned: The Speech-Language Pathology Graduate Student Perspective. 
• Clinical Assistant Professor Amy Rominger and student Casey Phillips (SLP ’14) presented a poster titled, Does Mom Really Know Everything?  Investigating Maternal Knowledge and Retention of Newborn Hearing Screening Information.
• Associate Professor Luanne Andersson presented a poster titled, A Comparison of Preschool Language Assessment Results Obtained on the PLS-5 Screening Test, FirstSTEp, and TELD-3.

In addition to their presentations, IC faculty members played a key role in coordinating the convention. Caswell served as the Student Posters Chair and coordinated reviewing student posters for the convention, with Pitti, Rominger and Susan Durnford serving on the committee. 

Caswell also coordinated the posters at the convention poster presentation reception and was the master of ceremonies for the NYSSHLA student luncheon.
