Associate Professor Jeff Holmes published an article in Teaching of Psychology entitled "Undergraduate Psychology's Scientific Identity Dilemma: Student and Instructor Interests and Attitudes."
The article reported that psychology students show greater interest in applications of psychology such as clinical psychology than in the scientific areas of psychology. In contrast, psychology professors have greater interest in scientific, empirical aspects of psychology. This mismatch can have implications for student satisfaction with the psychology major.
