Laurie Worrall, the executive director of New York Campus Compact, has been selected to lead the Office of Civic Engagement at Ithaca College. Worrall will continue to serve in her role with New York Campus Compact, a statewide association of college and university presidents and their campuses committed to promoting active citizenship as an aim of higher education. There she is responsible for program development, all aspects of membership, overseeing two federally funded statewide programs and consulting with member campuses.
Among her accomplishments since joining the Ithaca-based organization in 2010, Worrall has served in key leadership roles with the national Campus Compact Network, identified resources to help campuses advance a civic/community engagement agenda and developed new programming across the state. She is on the board of the International Association of Research on Service Learning and Civic Engagement.
As executive director of the Office of Civic Engagement, Worrall will work with key faculty and staff members to foster the development and coordination of curricular and cocurricular community partnerships and activities, including service-learning courses and volunteer community service initiatives by Ithaca College students and student organizations.
“We are pleased to be able to make this arrangement with Dr. Worrall and Campus Compact,” said President Tom Rochon. “She will bring to the college significant expertise in evaluating the effectiveness of our civic engagement programs, both for student development and for our community partners.”
Prior to joining Campus Compact, Worrall served as associate vice president and dean of the McMaster School for Advancing Humanity at Defiance College, and as associate vice president and executive director of the Irwin W. Steans Center for Community-based Learning and associate director of the Monsignor John J. Egan Urban Center, both at DePaul University,
Worrall earned her B.A. in English from Northern Michigan University, M.S. in Public Service Management from DePaul and Ed.D. in Higher Education Management from the University of Pennsylvania.
She will begin her new duties at Ithaca College prior to the start of the fall semester.
