Formed in 2001, Ithaca College Cheerleading has become an established institution designed to support Ithaca College athletics and promote good sportsmanship through halftime performances at each home football game and most men's basketball games.
In the past decade, the program has continued to improve and expand as a competitive team. On April 2, 2005, the Ithaca College cheerleading team attended their first national competition, traveling to the Cheerleaders of America (COA) sponsored Open National Competition in Niagara Falls, NY, winning their first National Title in the All-Girl, Non-Tumbling Division. Since then, the team has competed in Ocean City, MD, winning two national titles at the Reach the Beach Championship in the All-Girl division. Last year, they competed for the first time at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) College Nationals in Daytona Beach in the All-Girl Division 3 group, where they will be competing again in 2015.
The cheerleading squad is open to both men and women, and ordinarily consists of 18-22 members with tryouts held at the beginning of the fall semester. In addition to performing at home football and basketball games and attending national cheerleading competitions, the team participates in events and activities that benefit the campus and Ithaca community.
