Ithaca College Associate Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Mike Lindberg has accepted a position as Director of Athletics at Wells College. Lindberg, who has served Ithaca College and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics over the past 28 years, begins his tenure at Wells College on Sept. 15, 2014.
"Mike Lindberg has been synonymous with Ithaca College and Bomber sports for nearly three decades. His commitment to IC and his passion for student experience is unparalleled. Mike has been instrumental in facilitating the work of our coaches in providing a first class educational experience to our student-athletes," Ithaca College Director of Athletics and Recreational Sports Susan Bassett said. "He has been enormously helpful to me in making my transition to Ithaca College go smoothly over this past year. I wish Mike well as he pursues his dream of being a Director of Athletics and know that he will provide exceptional leadership for Wells College Athletics."
Lindberg joins Wells after 28 years at Ithaca, most recently serving as the Associate Director of Intercollegiate Athletics for 27 varsity programs and 80 full-time coaches, staff members and graduate assistants dating back to 1998. Managing nearly 800 student-athletes at Ithaca, Lindberg was responsible for NCAA compliance, game day operations, staff recruitment, sport oversight, and student-athlete support services. He served as the Department's liaison with admissions, alumni/ae affairs, athletic training, medical services, first year programs, and judicial affairs. In addition, he assisted with the development of long-term strategic planning, budgeting, fundraising and stewardship for the College's nationally-recognized athletics program.
"Though I leave to become the Director of Athletics at Wells College, I will always be grateful to the Ithaca College community for the opportunities of professional and personal growth throughout my tenure on South Hill. To become a Director has been my lifelong ambition and Ithaca College has prepared me to successfully lead, inspire, and take on the challenges ahead," Lindberg said. "I would like to thank the administrators, coaches, staff and most significantly the students for their support throughout the years."
At Ithaca, Lindberg collaborated in the development of policy and procedure for the management, marketing and scheduling of all athletic facilities, including the $65.5 million Athletics and Events Center that opened to the public in the fall of 2011. During his tenure, Lindberg also served key roles across the campus as the Senior Assistant Director of the Campus Center and Activities, advising several on-campus organizations including the Student Programming Board, Inter-Fraternity Council and the Leadership Advisory Committee.
At Wells, Lindberg will oversee a department that has experienced exponential growth in recent years. Since becoming a co-educational institution in 2005, the cadre of sport offerings has expanded from six all-women's teams to 14 sport offerings for 2014-15.
