Want to learn about sustainable ecotourism while traveling in Costa Rica? Listen to howler monkeys and see exotic plants and wildlife? Assist in a turtle conservation program? Take RLS 27700 Ecotourism and Natural Resource Management - FA14 Block II with a January trip to Costa Rica! Info session Tuesday, September 23, 12:15-1 in Smiddy 325.

Winter Break Trip to Costa Rica - January 3-11, 2015

INFORMATION SESSION:
Tues., Sept. 23
12:15-1 p.m. 
Smiddy Hall 325

·   Stay in ecotourism lodges in Alajuela, La Amistad, Monteverde, and Marino Ballena

·   Learn model sustainable ecotourism practices that protect natural resources and biodiversity, use organic methods, and support local communities and economies

·   Hike through La Amistad International Park to observe tropical wildlife and regeneration of primary and secondary tropical rainforests

·   Learn about indigeneous people of Costa Rica at Spheres Park, a World Heritage Site

·   Talk with local people about conservation and sustainability practices

·   Hike in the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and tour the cloud forest canopy 

·   Volunteer with the ASANA turtle conservation project

·   All activities co-led by certified Costa Rican guides trained in tropical biology

 

Estimated cost of study abroad:  $1,900 + airfare (based on 10 students enrolled—includes lodging, meals, guides, vans, park admissions, travel insurance)
