You're invited to hear an incredible story, "Before Edward Snowden: The Citizen Burglars Who Exposed FBI Political Spying," with journalist/author Betty Medsger, Tues., 9/30, 7:00 p.m. in Williams 225.

On a March night in 1971, a group of eight citizens pulled off a phenomenal David vs. Goliath feat when they broke into an FBI office, carting off documents that would shake the foundations of one of the most powerful institutions, run by one of the most powerful men, in the country.

Their bold act helped pave the way for Daniel Ellsberg's revelation of the Pentagon Papers, the prosecution of the Watergate break-in, and Congressional hearings that eventually led to reforms at the FBI.

Medsger was the first journalist to cover the story of the break-in, and she subsequently wrote many accounts of the contents of the stolen documents. The identities of the citizen burglars were secret until her book The Burglary was published this year. It's a gripping tale.

Sponsored by the Park Center for Independent Media, the free and open lecture will be followed by a Q&A and book signing.
