Submitted on behalf of Luke Keller and Nancy Pringle, Search Committee Co-Chairs
We write to update the Ithaca College Community regarding our efforts to identify the College’s next Provost and Vice President for Educational Affairs (VPEA).
We thank all of you who have sent comments and suggestions and all who participated in the pre-search study led by our consultant Julie Tea of AGB Search on campus in early September. Your thoughtful comments provided the basis for the creation of the search prospectus, a valuable tool that will be used to solicit nominations and recruit candidates nationally. The search committee recently reviewed the search prospectus draft, and our edits were incorporated into a final document by our search consultant and the team in the College’s Office of Marketing Communications. The finalized prospectus is available on the College’s Web site and on AGB Search’s site.
The search prospectus lists the attributes most highly desired, according to the pre-search study, in Ithaca’s new Provost and VPEA. We urge you to suggest people you know who could serve effectively in this critically important position, or those you think might know of potential candidates. Please forward their names to us (lkeller@ithaca.edu and npringle@ithaca.edu) or to Julie Tea (jet@agbsearch.com), and kindly share any advice you have on the best way to approach the individuals. Our committee is well aware that the success of our search depends on the involvement of all members of the Ithaca community. Please rest assured that names and information will be treated with full confidentiality.
Over the next several weeks, we will generate a national candidate pool through nominations received from you and others, inquiries at other colleges and universities similar to Ithaca in scope and mission, advertising in The Chronicle of Higher Education and Inside Higher Ed and on a number of other relevant Web sites, and the work of our search consultant. Later this month the search committee will begin to narrow the candidate pool, moving toward early December when finalist interviews will be held on campus. We will know the precise schedule of those interviews, and of the opportunities for you to meet with the finalists, when the search committee identifies the finalists in mid-late November.
This aggressive schedule will place us at an advantage, allowing President Rochon to make an offer to the final candidate very early in the search season. We hope this will increase the likelihood of getting our top choice in a very competitive hiring environment.
The search is off to a good start. We will send updates again as we enter subsequent stages of the process. Please feel free to contact us with any questions.
