International Club of Ithaca College will be hosting our annual International Education Week from October 20th through the 24th! This is the most colorful week of the year as we will be hosting a series of educational and culturally informative events. The time is coming to celebrate our international cultures here at IC!
Around the World in 60 Minutes: It is on Monday, October 20th at 7pm-8pm in Klingenstein Lounge and this is the event that will be kicking off our International Education Week. The purpose of this event is to inform others about different cultures by presenting facts, souvenirs, foods/snacks, etc.
We are currently still looking for volunteers who would like to participate in this event and share their culture with the audience. Feel free to bring any material that you feel will help best inform others about your country and cultural background.
When Imitation is Not Appreciation: Making Sense of Cultural Appropriation in the Global Era: with Guest Speaker Sherry Deckman, in collaboration with African Students Association - Tuesday October 21st. We will be hosting a discussion where Prof. Deckman will be presenting arguments about how race and culture are treated in modern day. This event will be held in Klingenstein Lounge at 7pm-8pm.
Baile y Pasión: Latino Dance Workshop: Come join us and PODER for a night of Latin flavor where we will be teaching different types of dances from the Latin American culture on Wednesday, October 22nd at 7pm-9pm in Klingenstein Lounge.
Light it Up! A Festival of Life, Lanterns and Learning: In collaboration with South Asian Students Society, we will be hosting our festival of light in honor of the Deepavali holiday. Come join us to decorate and light your own lantern and learn about this beautiful celebration. It will be Thursday, October 23rd in Clarke Lounge at 7pm-9pm.
Finally - our final and biggest event - One World Concert: The One World Concert is by far the most vibrant event of International Education Week. It is dedicated to showcasing a variety of talent from around the world ranging from dance performances to comedy acts, and much more. We also hope to see you all there in Campus Center Dinning Hall for dinner, with International Dinner featuring dishes from the recipes you have sent in. So make sure to not miss out on Friday, October 24th in Emerson Suites for our biggest and closing event of the week. Doors open at 7pm for the performances!
