Park School Dean Diane Gayeski '74 and Evan D. Williams '08 presented a session on "The Art and Science of Communications Appraisal" at the annual conference of the International Association of Business Communicators Heritage Region in Providence, RI.
Gayeski's research over the past decade has focused on new methodologies to assess and communicate the impact of various organizational communication and learning systems in terms of a firm's long-term performance and valuation. Williams is a fine art appraiser and consultant whose research includes the correlation between the art market and overall financial markets, and the motivations that drive purchases of fine art. Their presentation proposed new ways of appraising communications as an intangible asset, using current models and professional credentialing in accounting, fine arts, and real estate as possible paths to help communications professionals better articulate the value of elements such as brand, employee and customer relationships, employee training and information systems, and performance feedback protocols.
Gayeski is also adviser to Ithaca College's chapter of IABC and this conference was an opportunity to introduce three of its members to several IC alums in attendance.
