Mandatory Workplace Harassment Prevention Training for all Staff Extended Deadline

10/28/14

Submitted on behalf of Nancy Pringle, Vice President for Human and Legal Resources

We have extended the deadline for all staff to complete the online training to November 21, 2014.  However, computer workstations will not be available in the Office of Human Resources during the month of November for employees without regular access to computers (due to Re-enrollment).

As a community, Ithaca College values a respectful environment free from harassment and discrimination. I believe that all of us recognize that unwanted advances, sexually explicit conduct, differential treatment, or offensive jokes have a detrimental impact on our community. Our obligations as members of the Ithaca College community, including some responsibilities specific to supervisors are outlined in the College’s Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Policy, the Institutional Policy on Disability and the Sexual Harassment Policy.

In the past, Traevena Byrd conducted the College’s mandatory workplace harassment prevention training program. Given the importance of this training and to make it as easy as possible for you we are moving to an online format developed by United Educators.

All staff members are required to complete the online training program (approximate time – 1 hour) titled Workplace Harassment Prevention # 113 by November 21, 2014.

The training can be accessed at https://www.ithaca.edu/hr/development/harassmentprevention/

The webpage gives detailed instructions for enrolling in the United Educators learning program. Please be sure to read all instructions before accessing the United Educators site. A copy of these instructions is provided here for your convenience. Computer workstations will be available in the Office of Human Resources every Wednesday during the month of October for employees without regular access to computers. If you would like to use one of the computers in Human Resources, please call 274-8000. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact Jane Ray in the Office of Human Resources.

Supervisors please note:

·         Supervisors should allow employees to complete this training during their standard work hours.

·         If you have employees who do not have regular access to computers, please post this communication.

·         Supervisors were asked to take this training in April of this year. If you have completed this training through United Educators you do not need to retake the training at this time.

We will be tracking the participation of community members as we take this important step forward. As a reminder, all supervisors have an immediate reporting obligation to Vicki Estabrook in the Office of Human Resources if they become aware of discriminatory or harassing behavior.

Thank you in advance for your participation in the training and for the work you do to create an environment free from harassment and discrimination.
