The Ithaca College United Way Campaign Kick-off!

11/06/14

Contributed by Michelle Rios-Dominguez

We are off to a late start but we can make it up with a little heart. Help us reach our $60,000 goal. Every gift counts!

It takes a village… and that has never been so truer. As community members, we all see the impact of poverty everyday in our communities and throughout the world. Here is our chance to help.

United Way of Tompkins County (UWTC) improves lives by providing our community. The United Way’s Community Care Fund issue areas include: basic needs, child care and early learning, crisis services, financial stability and building self-sufficiency, health and environment, seniors, and youth.

Last year, with a participation rate of just 15.9% of our campus community, Ithaca College was still able to contribute over $56,000. We can do better! Just imagine how much more good we could do-–and how much more local assistance UWTC could provide-–if we increased both our campus participation rate and our individual giving amounts.

A gift in any amount is greatly appreciated. If you didn’t contribute to our United Way campaign last year, please consider donating this year. If you did contribute, please consider increasing your commitment this year. Remember, payroll deduction makes giving even easier by spreading your contribution across the entire year.

You will soon receive a separate email with information about accessing this online donation system. After you first change your password and then login, please review your personal information for accuracy; contact Michelle Rios-Dominguez with any changes or corrections you need to make. Please use the online pledge form to review your options for contributing to the United Way, giving thoughtful consideration about the level of support you can offer UWTC this year.

If you prefer to receive a hard copy pledge form, please contact Michelle Rios-Dominguez to request one.

Whichever method you choose – paper pledge or on-line form - please be assured that any record of your giving is kept strictly confidential and totally secure. We hope to end our 2014-15 campus fundraising campaign by December 31st, but please don’t wait that long to make your gift.

Remember, you have a number of options about how to donate. You can specify a gift to:

• UWTC’s Community Care Fund, offering United Way the most flexibility in using your gift. Targeted special initiatives of Hunger and Food Security or Urgent Rx Prescription.
• Any of the more than 40 UWTC partner agencies or community councils that might be of personal importance to you and your family.
• The United Way in your home county or another non-profit organization (please see the drop-down menu of some options or add the name of your preferred recipient organization).
• The Ithaca College Student United Way, our own student philanthropic organization, which is also listed as an option in the drop-down menu of specific agencies on the pledge form.

Your contribution will support the building blocks of better lives and stronger communities: a quality education that leads to a stable job; enough income to support a family through retirement; and good health. Our community needs your help!

Give. Advocate. Volunteer. Live United

Thank you in advance for your support.
