This year’s Cortaca Jug game is just a few days away and we know students in Ithaca are gearing up to celebrate what we hope will be a great win for Ithaca College Bomber Football. We also know that—win or lose—there’s going to be a lot of activity taking place on the South Hill this weekend. From those of us in the Class of 2015 who are heading into our last Cortaca Jug to the first-year-students who will be experiencing the excitement of this weekend for the first time—Cortaca is a time to celebrate what it means to be a Bomber. We want to go out and support the sportsmanship and talents of those on the field and also wear the blue and gold with pride in the stands.
In light of the events that occurred in Cortland following last year’s game, we have a few simple reminders for our fellow IC students:
· Remember, be good to your neighbors. As students, we all work incredibly hard, and we deserve days to play hard as well. But our neighbors on South Hill and in the rest of the community shouldn’t have to pay, so please show respect for them and their property this weekend, as you ought to throughout the year.
· Be safe. Whether, you’re staying here on the South Hill or traveling to Cortland this Saturday, please remember to act responsibly to ensure the safety of yourself and your peers.
· Please don’t let Cortaca traditions come to be defined by last years negative media attention. Remember, anything you post to social media becomes part of your online profile and can be found by anyone from law enforcement to future employers. Be sure to act with integrity this weekend.
If we all do our part, we can make this Saturday a great day to be a Bomber! On behalf of the Student Government Association, I hope that everyone has an incredible Cortaca Weekend!
Go Bombers!
