Luca Maurer, program director of the Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Education, Outreach, and Services, presented at the National Sex Ed Conference in Meadowlands, NJ. The Center for Sex Education’s National Sex Ed Conference is the largest gathering of sexuality educators in the world.

Maurer co-presented the pre-conference session "Teaching Transgender: Best Practices for Facilitators" with colleague Eli Green. Based on their forthcoming book, The Teaching Transgender Toolkit:  A Facilitator’s Guide for Increasing Knowledge, Decreasing Prejudice and Building Skills, the session helped those seeking to expand their knowledge base and expertise in facilitating transgender-related lessons and trainings. The session also included understanding common learner responses and how to address frequently asked questions that occur in most transgender-related training settings.
As a result of this session participants were able to compare and contrast the concepts of biological sex, gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation so that they are able to explain each of these while facilitating transgender-related trainings, to identify and practice core strategies for responding to challenging frequently asked questions and common learner responses regarding transgender content, and to name two skills or strategies toward the successful implementation of transgender-related content and lesson plans with a wide range of target audiences.
