This is a reminder for users of College computers not to upgrade to Java 8 if prompted. Java 8 is not fully tested with Parnassus core apps, HomerAdmin, and other applications commonly used on campus.
For most people, Java 7 should continue to be used until further notice. Watch carefully if you are prompted to update your Java software. If it shows "Java 8 Update xx" do not proceed with the installation. Note that if you have already installed Java 8 and it isn't causing any problems for you, that's OK!
We realize that the Java environment is complex, so do not hesitate to contact the Helpdesk if you have any questions. ITS will provide an update when it is OK to install Java 8.
