The Handwerker Gallery is pleased to invite local artist/photographer Laurie Snyder to share her artistic practice in a presentation called ART IS HARD on Thursday, February 5, 2015, at 6:00 p.m..
An active exhibiting artist whose work combines alternative and contemporary photographic processes with bookmaking and textile design, Laurie Snyder has recently shown her work at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center in Silver Spring, Maryland, the Maryland State Arts Council in Baltimore, and the Ink Shop, in Ithaca, New York. Earlier exhibits at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, DC, Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, New York, and the Fine Arts Gallery at University of Maryland brought good critical response. She operates a small artist book press from her home called ART IS HARD.
Snyder most recently taught at the Maryland Institute College of Art, where she served as an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Chair of the Photography Department. Prior to teaching at MICA, she taught at Cornell University, Ithaca College, and Syracuse University.
