Far Away creates a nightmarish, dystopian society and follows the journey of a girl named Joan who lives in constant fear. As the society continues down the path toward war, death and corruption, Joan and those around her have to decide whether or not to take a stand, not knowing the repercussions of action. Obie Award-winning Churchill challenges the audience to enter Joan’s world as she desperately tries to find the “right” side of the war that has taken over.
Director Hublard-Hershman says, “I choose to direct this play because it is so relevant to society and will always be relevant if our society believes in fighting wars to make peace. This play, for me, is a call to action that if our society doesn’t stop dehumanizing and killing people then it will result in a world at war. Although it seems absurd at times, I think this is what our future looks like if we, as the human race, don’t change.”
