I am announcing a special meeting for the Ithaca College community – faculty, staff and students – to be held in Textor 102 on Thursday, March 5, from 12:10 to 1:00 p.m. In an effort to reach the entire campus community, the meeting will also be webcast live.

The webcast site can be accessed at https://www.ithaca.edu/collegemeeting/livestream/. Faculty, students and staff can sign into the livestream with email and password.

The purpose will be to discuss a renewed and enhanced commitment to cost control on behalf of our students and their families.  The college has undertaken a number of initiatives in recent years in response to the changed demographics of high school graduating classes and the crisis in higher education cost.  These initiatives have helped us get onto a different path with respect to affordability, reducing the rate of tuition increase from 5-6 percent per year to less than 3 percent per year in the last two budgets.

These steps, as important as they are, will not be enough to sustain educational excellence at IC while putting us in a more competitive position with respect to price.  In this meeting, I will lay out a comprehensive plan of cost reduction steps that we must undertake in order to meet those twin challenges.

Textor 102 has limited seating capacity (240).  If you wish to be an in-person attendee at the meeting, please fill out this form to reserve your seat. The form will be available as long as seats remain available.

Faculty, staff and students who view the meeting via webcast will be able to submit questions by emailing president@ithaca.edu and many will be answered during the livestream. I will take questions from those in Textor 102. (Any questions that do not receive a response at the meeting will receive a response via email.) I encourage campus community members to organize “webcast viewing parties,” to facilitate discussion and reflection on the priorities and initiatives outlined in the meeting.

Details on access to the webcast and the means of submitting questions and comments remotely are forthcoming.

Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Thomas Rochon at president@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-3111. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
