Featured Sessions Announced for Ed Tech Day on March 19th

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of Educational Technology Day we're pleased to announce the addition of Featured Sessions to this year's event.  Presented by nationally recognized thought-leaders, these sessions will focus on technology, teaching and learning, leadership and innovation. 

These sessions are part of Ed Tech Day on March 19th from 9 AM to 4 PM in the campus center.  Ed Tech Day features over 60 national and local vendors, 55 sessions and presentations, and much more.  All Ed Tech Day events are free and open to the entire campus community.  Details are on our Web site: www.ithaca.edu/edtechday/.

• Classroom of Today and Tomorrow: Leveraging Institutional Partnerships to Get There!
  
  Dr. Jennifer Sparrow, Senior Director of Teaching and Learning with Technology, The Pennsylvania State University | Keith “Mac” McIntosh, Associate Vice President and CIO, Ithaca College
  
  Join us for a conversation about the differences between today’s classroom and tomorrow’s.  The design of the future classroom will look drastically different from today.  It requires several organizations on campus to work collaboratively to make it happen effectively.  Having the teacher at the front of the class and the students seated in a row is an old model.   Given today’s learning technologies, active learning spaces, and pedagogical changes the environment is rapidly changing.  Join us for a lively discussion.  11:00 - 11:50 AM, Klingenstein Lounge
   
• Teaching and Learning with Technology Symposium
  
  In partnership with the Finger Lakes Faculty Development Network (FLFDN) we will have a “Teaching and Learning with Technology Symposium” track as part of Ed Tech Day.  The symposium consists of a series of sessions specifically focusing on innovations and best practices in using technology for teaching and learning, as well as scholarship assessing the effect of technology on student learning.  Click here for more information.  9:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Clark Lounge
   
• Developing IT Leaders: CHECS CIO and Technology Leader Research Results for 2014  
  
  Dr. Wayne Brown, Vice President for Information Technology and CIO, Excelsior College and founder of the Center for Higher Education Chief Information Officer Studies (CHECS) Inc.
  
  The results from the 2014 Center for Higher Education Chief Information Officers Studies (CHECS) CIO and Technology Leader (TL) research studies will be discussed to help provide insight into the career path of individuals in, or aspiring to, technology leadership positions within higher education. The research results for 2014 revealed a number of positive changes including the recognition by CIOs and TLs of the importance of mentoring and on-the-job training. The 2014 results and a longitudinal view of these ongoing studies will be presented.  This session provides a great opportunity to better understand the background, personal and professional characteristics necessary to be an IT leader, and the various pathways that those before you have taken.  10:00 - 10:50 AM, Klingenstein Lounge
   
• The New IT Leadership Challenge

  Today’s rapid and ever-morphing pace of technological advances coupled with the disruptive changes facing higher education, require a new type of IT organization, and with it, new approaches to leadership. • Starting a Startup – Tales from the Front Lines

• Student Perspectives on Educational Technology: A Panel Discussion
  
  A panel consisting of current Ithaca College students will discuss how technology plays a role in higher education from their perspective. Come join us and hear students share their expectations for the use of technology in and out of the classroom, and where they would like to see educational technology head in the future.  12:10 - 1:00 PM, Taughannock Falls Meeting Room
