 Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

Please join us for an opening night reception (Catered by a local Ba-Li Cravings Israeli Bakery) and a screening of an award winning 2014 Israeli comedy "Zero Motivation".

"A zany, dark, & comedic portrait of everyday life for a unit of young, female Israeli soldiers. The Human Resources Office at a remote desert base serves as the setting for this cast of characters who bide their time pushing paper and battling in computer games, counting down the minutes until they can return to civilian life. Amidst their boredom and clashing personalities, issues of commitment - to friendship, love, and country - are handled with humor and sharp-edged wit."

This film will be followed up by a "Women at a Workplace" panel immediately after the screening.

Following the success of last year’s Israel Film Festival (last year’s topic “Multiculturalism”) we are venturing to explore a meta theme of “Gender” and ways it translates into women’s rights, homosexuality, marital relationships, cross cultural dialogue. Choosing this topic allows us for intimate view of different Israeli communities where people of opposing nationalities, religions and sexual orientations create an island of peace in a land divided by war.

The opening movie, “Zero Motivation” explores roles and struggles of women in the military, a traditionally male dominated sphere. These women are occupied in a non-military, office jobs, stationed in the desert. Autobiographical debut feature from Israel, written and directed by a woman, Talya Lavie, that takes satirical aim at the passions, frustrations and sexual politics of women in the army.
