The Office of Residential Life is always willing to help you with any questions or concerns you might have about your housing. Here are some Frequently Asked Questions that we can help you with:
Where is the Central Office Located?
Also known as the Office of Residential Life, the central office is located in the East Tower Lobby. Give us a call at 607-274-3141 with any questions or stop by during the week. We are open from 8:30am-5:00pm Monday through Friday.
How can I request a room if I need an accommodation?
Depending on your needs, there are two forms you can fill out.
Special Accommodation Request Form – Students may submit this form to make specific types of room requests (i.e. single room, room with cooking facilities, room with air conditioning, etc.) for a number of reasons. Students requiring special accommodation should contact the Office of Residential Life as early as possible. If you have a special medical, psychological or learning need, the Office of Residential Life will make every effort to provide the most appropriate, on-campus, housing assignment for you. This form is available in the Office of Residential Life or on our website at https://www.ithaca.edu/sas/docs/housing/
Transgender Accommodation Request Form - Ithaca College assigns roommates who are of the same biological sex. If you identify as a transgendered student and require a special housing accommodation, please complete and submit a Transgender Housing Request form. Your request will be reviewed in consultation with the Coordinator of the Center for LGBT Education, Outreach, and Services with a commitment to provide a housing accommodation that best meets the needs of a transgendered student. Housing options may be limited due to space availability. Forms can be found at https://www.ithaca.edu/reslife/docs/housing/transgender.pdf
I’m not happy with my current room assignment. What are my options for changing rooms starting next fall?
One-to-One Room Change – If a student would like to swap room assignments with another student, they can do a one-to-one room change by speaking with their Residence Director (RD). Both students must be in agreement.
Vacancy Request Form – Students may fill out a vacancy request form in the event that a vacancy occurs in their room. Students have the option to either pull in a friend who lives on-campus in the vacant space, or let the Office of Residential Life assign someone to the space. If no form is on file when the vacancy is confirmed, then the Office of Residential Life will automatically assign a student to the space. Vacancy Forms can be found in the Office of Residential Life in the East Tower Lobby.
Wait List – Wait List forms are made available during the Fall and Spring semesters, and during Summer Break. Wait Lists provide you an opportunity to be reassigned to any room type or area as space is available. There is no guarantee that the Office of Residential Life will be able to offer you a Wait List reassignment. During the academic year, if your Wait List request can be satisfied, you will be offered a new assignment and given a limited period of time to either accept or decline. If you decline, your request will be removed from that Wait List and you will need to reapply in order to be considered for a similar space. Wait List forms are available to fill out in the Office of Residential Life in the East Tower Lobby.
Why would I be billed for damages?
Check Out Inspection - Upon a student's vacating a room or apartment, a Residential Life staff member will conduct a check-out inspection. During inspection, the staff member will check for any damages or missing property.
Damage Assessment – This process is done to ensure that our students are provided with the highest quality of living possible by determining repairs that need to be made in each living space. Once a damage assessment has been made, during a damage check or any other room inspection of an individual room or apartment, any damage found will be repaired. The cost to repair the damage will then be split equally between all room or apartment residents as is appropriate to the location of the damage. Only if a specific student or students take responsibility for the damage in writing, will the cost of repair be billed exclusively to them.
Damage Billing – Residents are responsible for any damage, misuse, or theft of Ithaca College property that occurs within their room or apartment. Damages will be charged to the student’s account for the cost to replace, reassemble, or repair any missing or damaged property that was furnished to them.
How do I apply to live on the same floor as a group of my friends?
Apply for Block Housing!
Block Housing – This is a competitive process of housing selection by which a group of 4-6 individuals can apply to live in rooms in a cluster near each other. Rising sophomores interested in block housing can submit an application to the Office of Residential Life starting on April 7, 2015 up through May 4, 2015. Awards will be prioritized by semesters completed and best housing priority number. Over the summer, awards will be completed and communicated via email before traditional sophomore selection begins. Anyone submitting an application who is awarded a Block will be housed manually by the Office of Residential Life based upon preferences provided at the time of application.
